Center of Competence for Sustainable Finance

Financial Inclusion

A sequence of applied research projects at CCSF focus on financial inclusion. Financial inclusion, formerly called microfinance, is considered a pioneer in impact investing and a contributor to a range of sustainable development goals in the context of developing economies; balancing social and environmental with financial objectives is an ongoing challenge. Research by CCSF member Annette Krauss and her co-authors builds on their previous work on establishing metrics for financial inclusion markets from both macro and impact investment perspectives. Their current focus is on investor motivations for social impact, on de-biasing lending algorithms of microfinance lenders and on the effects of social objectives of funders and raters on financial inclusion suppliers.
